U05 Consultation Skills for Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Aim: The aim of this Continued Professional Development unit is to equip learners with the essential knowledge, understanding, and skills to implement a systematic approach in conducting safe and effective medical consultations, history-taking processes, and clinical assessments. This comprehensive approach will enhance clinical decision-making prior to prescribing or undertaking any therapeutic and/or cosmetic treatment interventions, while also reinforcing practitioner accountability to patients throughout the entire treatment journey.

• Exploring a systematic approach to taking a medical, mental health history 

• Examining medical history documentation 

• Exploring individual treatment motivations 

• Examining treatment suitability and contraindications 

• Exploring treatment options 

• Exploring the legal, professional and ethical aspects of obtaining informed consent including validity and capacity 

• Examining consent documentation 

• Exploring practitioner legal, professional and ethical responsibilities for the treatment, post-treatment advice and care, treatment review and continuity care.  

• Examining the legal and professional aspects of record-keeping, including ICO registration requirements.  

Method of learning: he course is delivered entirely online, making it accessible to participants worldwide. Learning materials include a narrated presentation, a training manual, an e-library featuring evidence-based publications, and a multiple-choice quiz at the end of each unit 

Facilitation: The education and training content for this course is facilitated by qualified educators who are regulated healthcare professionals and who hold master level regulated qualifications in non-surgical cosmetic practice.  

Guided learning hours: 3 hrs 

Self-directed reading hours:  4 hours 

Accreditation:  OTHM – CPD accreditation 

CPD Points:  7 

Course Work and Assessment: As this course is focused on continuing professional development and learning, there are no formative or summative assessments. However, learners will complete an end-of-course multiple-choice quiz to evaluate their acquisition of knowledge and understanding, facilitating reflective practice in this critical area of non-surgical cosmetic practice. 

Entry Requirements: There are no formal prerequisite qualifications for entry to this CPD course. However, it should be noted that CPD courses are not qualifications and may not be suitable for unqualified practitioners. 

Completion timescales: Completion is flexible to fit in with the busy demands of working professionals. Learners will have access to the platform and resources for 8 weeks for each CPD course.
